Down syndrome is one of the most common birth defects, affecting approximately 350,000 people in the United States. Every year, approximately 5,000 babies are born with Down syndrome, a condition that has some degree of mental retardation, characteristic physical features, and often other health problems that require major surgery. Life expectancy for a child born with Down syndrome is 55 years.
Downi Creations, Inc.'s mission is to promote the awareness and understanding of this all-too-common birth defect with a variety of quality products and services directed at the affected children and their families, medical professionals, Special Education teachers, and the public at large. 1. Provide free dolls to low-income families with children with Down syndrome. By putting your donation to work in this manner, you will ensure that children with Down syndrome will have a special playmate that builds self-esteem with every moment of play. Hospital staff are often the first professionals to discuss Down syndrome with new parents. However, low budgets often prevent hospitals from ordering our dolls. Thanks to your donation, doctors and nurses can use our beautiful Down Syndrome Originalsã dolls to educate apprehensive parents on the 13 special physical characteristics of Down syndrome. Instead of looking at an intimidating and unflattering photograph in a medical textbook, parents can hold a huggable baby doll in their own arms that celebrates the special beauty of their own baby. Your donation will replace fear and ignorance with understanding and joyful anticipation. Once parents are aware of Down Syndrome Originals© dolls, they can purchase one for their child. 3. Provide free dolls to Special Education classrooms. Many of the children in Special Education classrooms across the United States have Down syndrome. Unfortunately, schools operate on such tight budgets that they often can't afford to buy a single doll. Your donation helps provide dolls to these classrooms so that these older children can have a positive role model during the day. Downi Creations, Inc. will give product brochures with ordering information to the Special Education teachers so that they can give them to the parents. 4. Allow us to decide the area of greatest need at the time of your donation.	We appreciate all donations.
